Children in the Orphan Welfare Home

Lak Kubir Rai - Date of birth: 23/03/2000, Solukhumbu District

Lak Lak 2011Lakkubir's mother died when he was only 2 1/2 years old, after which his father married a woman who became Lakkubir's step-mother. His father does not own any land or properties, and therefore he has to work for rich people and land lords on farms. Physically and mentally he is very weak and unable to feed and take care of his 5 young children. Subash Rai of this organization came to know about Lakkubir's family when he visited the boy's village in November 2004. Subash found Lakkubir's really hungry eyes and illness so that he decided to bring him to the project.

Suresh Rai - Date of birth: 19/04/1999, Solukhumbu District/Eastern Nepal

Suresh Suresh 2011Suresh was born in a very poor family in an undeveloped village. His father died when he was 4 months old. He has his mother and an older brother which is mentally deserve so that his mother is unable to taking care of them by herself. She has only less farming land and they are not able to live from that. She requested one of our member’s Subash Rai to help her son to feed and provide education when he visited the village. Subash saw that Suresh was really in that situation and decided to bring the boy to OWHN. The mother brought him now to us at the 17th April 2005. Suresh can't speak and understand any Nepalese language but he looks very honest and like a good boy.

Jamuna and Ganga Sunuwar - Date of birth: 19/09/1999, Khotang District

Jamuna GangaGanga and Jamuna Sunuwar are twins. Their parents met in Kathmandu while making carpets 9 years ago. The father has been missing for five years. The mother says her husband owns neither land nor a house to live in back in their village in eastern Nepal. The mother supposes her husband is homeless and landless.
She also has an eight-year-old son living with her.Ganga 2011Jamuna 2011She still makes carpets but it doesn't provide enough food to feed her children, she says. She believes her husband will never return and she cannot look after her children so she wanted someone to adopt her children. Mantare Rai, one of the newest OWHN members, brought Ganga and Jamuna to the project home. He had met the twins' mother in Kathmandu and found the children hungry and without clothes. The mother requested him to rescue her daughters' lives from a life of utter poverty.

Durga Rai - Date of birth: 04/04/2001, Solukhumbu Distric

Durga Durga 2011She was born into a very poor family from a remote village in Eastern Nepal. Her immediate family was made up of four people including her father, mother, grandmother and Durga respectively. When Durga was 2 years old her father and other male family members decided to go and work as laborers in order to earn some money to etch out a living for themselves and their families. The mother and grandmother stayed in the village with Durga awaiting his return. Sadly, he never returned home. He was missing for several months but finally the family received word that he had been murdered by an unidentified person or persons. Durga's mother suffered from emotional and psychological problems after this event and eventually abandoned Durga in the village. Durga was left to live with her aging grandmother for a year and a half. Her grandmother had suffered from asthma for many years and was quite ill and finally succumbed to the disease. Durga's health was poor and her life and future were uncertain. She was completely alone in the world. She frequently slept at neighbors houses. One of our community members heard Durga's story and we decided to bring her in to our OWHN.

Hira Upadhaya - Date of birth: 13/02/1999, Jumla District

Hira Hira 2011Hira's father, Devi Krishna Upaddhya, died one year ago in Kathmandu during medical treatment, and her mother, Dhan Laxmi Upaddhya, is financially destitute and suffers from the loss of one eye. Therefore she had requested an orphanage to help her children according to the authority letter written by the Chief District Office (C.D.O.). Ram Chandra brought Hira Upaddhya to the project home.

Jonisa Jirel - Date of birth: 14/05/2002, Janakpur District

Jonisa Jonisha 2011Her parents were landless villagers in Ramechhap district, Nepal. Jonisa's mother Susila, says that they came to Kathmandu 9 years ago. In Kathmandu, her parents were laborers. They had 4 children in 7 years and again Jonisa's mother is pregnant. One evening in January 2006, Jonisa's father was on his way home from work when he was killed by drug addicts. When we visited the family's apartment, we found only one bed with a few cooking pots and plates. The children had no food or clothing and they all share this one small dark room. Jonisa has a large infected wound on her head. We at the OWHN community decided to help one of the children and brought Jonisa Jirel to our orphanage on the 2nd of May, 2006.

Asupa Tamang - Date of birth: 18/03/1996, Ilam District

Asupa Asupa 2011Asupa’s father died when he was young and his mother ran away with another man. He has no other relatives and so he was living with some neighbors he knows of a different caste. He was working hard looking after animals and collecting fire wood in the morning and evening and then going to school during the day when Ram Chandra brought Asupa to the project home.

Prem Pariyar - Date of birth: 29/09/1999, Lamjung District/West of Nepal

Prem Prem 2011Prem is a low caste from a remote village of western Nepal. His father was a teacher at the village for some years but other high caste people did not like him to teaching because of his low caste which was not accept to the high caste. During his teaching, he loved one of his girl student who was from a high caste family. They got married without permission of the girl's family or parents. After some time parents found her pregnant and then they did bit both the husband and wife. Then after her husband ran away from the village because he was warned to kill by the family of the girl and he is still missing. When Prem was born her mother was alone without any help and care . After some time she had been living with Prem's poor grand parents but when Prem became 3 years old his mother got married with another person and left him. Prem's grand father died one year ago and grand mother is not able to taking care of Prem so that Prem was bagging food with the neghbors but everybody hate him because he is child from low caste.

Birkha visited that area and met Prem. He found him an Orphan. Nobody was taking care of him so that Birkha requested our orphanage to help Prem and he was brought by Birkha on the 26th June, 2006.

Anish Bhandari - Date of birth: Year 2000, Gorkha District

Anish Anish 2011His father was in the Nepalese Army in Gorkha when he met his mother and married her about 9 years ago and they give the boy the name Anish. The Maoist activities and the situation of the country had been increasing worse so that Nawaraj was transferred to a different place far away from his family. The mother did not know where he was transferred and for a long time, they heard nothing from him. Pampha and her baby child Anish had been living with Pampha's old mother at Gorkha town. They had only a small hut to live and no other people in the family. Pampha was always hoping that her husband will come back but he never came. She wanted to find her husband's home address but she did not find where he is from. Once, she checked with the Nepal Army and also with the Maoist Army to find him but she did not find and she thought he could killed in war. After 3 years waiting for her husband and living with her mother and son (Anish) she got married with another person and then they both ran away from her son, the son Anish lived then with the grandmother. While the grand mother was busy at work, Anish became a street child at Gorkha town. One Shopkeeper who has his little shop opposite from the Project in Kathmandu he told us all this story and also requested to our Orphanwelfare home help this street child.

Jwala Rai - Date of birth: 18/04/2000, Koshi District/Eastern Nepal

JwalaJwala 2011Jwala's father married 2 wifes, but he didnt take care of them. That’s the reason that Jwala was born in his grandparents house.  When Jwala became 4 Years his mother married another man and she left Jwala because the new man would not have taken her with the child. His father was a poor porter , he died during a big storm. After the death of his father his aunt take care of him , but now she couldn´t do that any longer. Therefore they asked Subash our cook to take him in our project and we all together decided to do that. At the 14.04.2009 Jwala came to our project.

Dhan Bahadur Pariyar - Date of birth: 20/05/2001, Humla District

DhanDhan Bahadur 2011Dhan Bahadur is a low caste from a remote area of western Nepal. This region is one of the most remote and undeveloped and farm less land because of the desert. The people have to work very hard on farming but they still have not enough from the farm so that most people from this region go to India for work as porter or servant. Dhan's father is deaf and very weak now and his mother has broken her arms two years ago. Dhan has 4 Brothers and one Sister so that his deaf father and handicapped mother are unable to taking care and to feed enough food their 6 children themselves. The DISTRICT CHILD WELFARE BOARD of SIMIKOT, HUMLA identified and wrote a request letter to any orphanages. Dhan has been brought to Kathmandu by his aunty and then she requested us to provide him to live and taking care of him. He has been admitted to this Orphan Welfare home on 16th May 2009.

Deep Bahadur Rimail - Date of birth: 12/06/2004, Gorkha District

DeepDeep's father land and homeless at the village so that he was grown as a servant from the young child and married Sani from an unknown family an orphan young girl. When they got married then they have kicked off from their work so that they did not have any permanent home to live, and their live become more difficult. Bhim has gone to India to find a work as porter and Sani was pregnant when Bhim left to India and she gave born the baby son. She had been waiting for her husband to return home but Bhim never back then after she has married with another person and gone away from her young baby. The villagers had been taking care of the baby for some time but no one was agree to keep and take care any longer and then they have decided to send to any orphanage or child care center. One of the Kathmandu district children welfare board officer Mr. Bidur Bhujel requested to this home (OWHN) to provide him to live and taking care of him so that Deep is admitted on 16th May 2009.
